ACTIVITY
Did you know that stretching can help reduce stress, improve relaxation, and achieve inner balance? It releases tension and stress, increases blood flow to the brain and releases endorphins, improving mood and reducing anxiety.
The bodies response to stretching is similar to that from breathing and touch. Things release in our body that make us feel good! In this case, endorphins release that give us a sense of pleasure and well-being, and can also assist in pain relief and mood lifting.
If we then think that stretching is often combined with deep breathing, the benefits are increased. As deep breathing activates our parasympathetic nervous system, we build a sense of calm by stretching and breathing.
In another multi-pronged attack on stress, stretching also sends more blood to the brain, improving cognitive function, mental clarity, and concentration, again in similar ways that deep breathing exercises do.
From a Clear Air Sports point of view, we also encourage stretching from a physical stand point, helping to reduce injury and prepare for what is next.
